Design Selected for $560 Million Parramatta Towers
Turner has been selected to design a $560-million mixed-use development in Parramatta.
Plans for the project, that will be located at 34 Hassall Street, include two towers with a combined height of 44 stories, each including 600 residential apartments in addition to retail and office space.
The property is ideally close to the new Parramatta Light Rail and a future Metro Station, which will increase demand for residential and commercial space as Parramatta's population is expected to grow by approximately 70% over the next 20 years.
Turner's design has two towers connected by a raised podium with an elevated courtyard area. Retail and hotel frontages for business tenants will be on the ground floor. For the levels above, flexible workspace tenancies are intended, with intended allocations for a gym and a medical practice.
Turner director Stephen Cox said the proposed development is a “microcosm” of the local neighbourhood. “When you think of Parramatta, you think of a dense urban centre, surrounded by parks, a river and public transport,” Cox said.
Developer Deicorp said it unanimously selected Turner’s design for the “permeability of the ground floor plane” and the “lyrical nature of the podium design”.
According to Cox, Turner's design also aimed to give residents and visitors a "park-like experience" throughout the structure, giving them the impression of being surrounded by lush greenery. To encourage residents to feel a connection to the outdoors, view points have been placed in close proximity to attractions like the river and parklands.
The developer is due to submit a development application in 2023.
