CS Energy to Begin Construction on New Wind Farm
Construction of CS Energy’s Boulder Creek Wind Farm is set to begin in November 2024. This announcement follows CS Energy's acquisition of a 50 per cent stake in the project, achieving financial close with Aula Energy on the approximately $740 million venture.
Situated 40km southwest of Rockhampton, the 228 megawatts (MW) wind farm will consist of 38 GE Vernova wind turbines.
Upon its completion in 2027, it is projected to produce ample electricity to supply over 85,000 households.
CEO of CS Energy, Darren Busine, stated that the Boulder Creek Wind Farm will cater to the increasing demand for renewable energy from CS Energy's significant commercial and industrial retail clients.
“Our investment in this project underscores our enduring dedication to central Queensland and the provision of opportunities for our employees and local communities to partake in the advantages of the energy transition,” he remarked.
“Given the proximity of the Callide Power Station, situated about 110km away, CS Energy will explore training paths for our staff to offer maintenance services at the wind farm.”
Aula Energy's CEO, Chad Hymas, expressed delight at collaborating with CS Energy on the Boulder Creek Wind Farm, set to be Aula Energy’s flagship project in Australia.
“The CS Energy and Aula teams will build upon the outstanding cooperation during the development phase to deliver a project that aids in the decarbonisation of Queensland's energy generation while also benefiting the local community. We eagerly anticipate a long-lasting partnership with CS Energy as both a joint owner and a purchaser of energy,” he added.
The initiative stands as a substantial investment in the area's renewable energy infrastructure.
